Young people on the Big Dreams programme

About Helix Arts

A team of experienced and talented Creative Producers committed to improving cultural and social inclusion.
We are a not for profit creative business.

What we do

We work with artists, in partnership with other organisations, to create opportunities for people to participate in ambitious arts activity. We work across a range of art forms including visual arts, film-making, creative writing, graphic design, animation, street dance, music and DJ-ing as well as photography, drama and textiles. We work with people of all abilities, of all ages.

Why we do it

Our participants say their confidence, motivation and skills are boosted. Fresh opportunities for employability are opened up and many move into education and training. Health and well-being improve.

Participants see themselves differently during and after a high quality Helix Arts programme. Co-produced events, performances and exhibitions give audiences the opportunity to see participants in a very different light too.

Helix Arts programmes transform the lives and spirits of artists, participants and audiences.

Our Vision

We believe participation in creative activity is fundamental to the well-being of individuals and communities and therefore should be accessible to all.

Our Mission

We increase equality of opportunity for people to participate in the arts and our focus is on those who currently have least opportunity including: children and young people at risk; unemployed adults and employed people on low incomes; people living in deprived neighbourhoods; those with special educational needs; and people with poor health, particularly those who are older.

We welcome approaches from organisations and individuals who want to collaborate with us.

Please see the programmes section for more information about our work, or download our brochure and summary accounts.

Momentum: Helix Arts' Quality Framework

Momentum, Helix Arts quality framework

Momentum is a refreshed version of Helix Arts’ Quality Framework (QF) which was first published some 5 years ago.

The original intention was to help develop a common language and set of understanding that would enable people who care about participatory arts to develop a critical discourse around the work they co-produced. Helix Arts’ QF revitalised our approach to our practice and gave us and our many partners a confidence to discuss and debate the question of quality in the many and varied arts settings in which we are privileged to work.

Co-production is at the heart of our practice and Momentum has helped our commitment to co-evaluation too. In the last couple of years co-curation of events, performances and exhibitions is equally important in our practice. Momentum is helping us all in our quest to progress artistically. If you think Momentum can help you too, do contact us.
