Newbiggin by the Sea
Since 2015, residents from Newbiggin by the Sea have been working with Northumberland based visual artists to design and make a range of creative products. Developing skills and confidence to unlock talent, they have unleashed their creative energies to diversify the income opportunities for the Hive in the process.
Through a combined workshop, learning and mentoring programme, participants (many who have been long termed unemployed) are utilising and applying existing manual, trade and creative skills to develop their ambitions and put in place structures so they can operate on a professional level.
Members of the Hive continue to employ local artists to deliver skills masterclasses. The latest of these saw people exploring digital textile making and creating a series of products including roller blinds, needlecases and book jackets.
Residents within Newbiggin meet regularly on Wednesday mornings at the Hive to continue making artworks. If you’d like to see what they are currently up to and join the Hive yourself, check out their facebook page.
