Opportunities at Helix Arts

Director

Hours of work: 3–5 days per week subject to negotiation

Salary: up to £40,000 p.a. (pro rata, plus pension contribution), dependent on prior experience

Hours and salary are negotiable for the right candidate.

Helix Arts is dedicated to increasing participation in the arts, especially amongst diverse communities for whom access to high quality arts, culture and heritage might otherwise be limited. We work across all art forms, bringing leading practice to participatory arts. We have been co-producing great art since 1983; we are the only Arts Council England National Portfolio Organisation of our type in the North East of England and one of few in the country.

We know that our work makes a positive impact and that it does so by:

  1. Delivering an outstanding programme of participatory arts activity that is recognised as being excellent by partners and participants;
  2. Working with diverse communities, to open up new opportunities and perspectives and fresh pathways towards and within the arts (as makers, audiences, producers and volunteers both onsite and online);
  3. Growing talent and opportunity among artists and producers through our ambitious approach to co-production and co-curation;
  4. Taking a leading role in supporting the evolution of exemplary participatory arts practice through learning, innovation and experimentation;
  5. Influencing the way participatory arts can make a real difference in other sectors such as education, health, employability and criminal justice.

We are seeking a new Director who has the skills and ambition to work with Trustees to take the organisation to the next stage in its development. Trustees are committed to appointing a candidate who recognises the unique value of Helix Arts as an exemplar organisation in the North East. We look forward to shaping the detail of the role with the applicant who best fits what the organisation needs. We are looking for someone who can work well with an already very strong team to maximise the impact of their combined expertise, experience and effectiveness. This is a superb opportunity for someone who believes in the transformative power of Arts, Culture and Heritage and who is committed to making a difference in parts of our community where opportunities to participate in high quality artistic and cultural activity may be hard to access.

The successful candidate will be a skilled leader and a strategic thinker with excellent networking skills. You will ensure that the organisation strives for excellence and adheres to its core values in all it does. Knowledge of the arts sector, not-for-profit and public sectors is desirable.

If you feel you have the skills and the drive to undertake this key role in an ambitious organisation working within the community, please download an application pack below or contact Rowena On, Head of Operations, 0191 241 4931 [email protected] For further information see our website at www.helixarts.com or call Alison Shaw, Chair, on 07815719974

Closing date for applications: 12.00 noon on Friday 5th July 2019

The application pack is available in large print on request.
